Artist’s Statement:

“I paint mostly in oils and pastels, being initially tutored to paint oils in a traditional way, coming to pastels much later in life. Having lived not far from the sea for most of my life I am fascinated by all things marine and just love the shapes of boats. I’m also inspired to paint coastal subjects and other landscape scenes and gardens especially if they contain water and reflection. I paint in a representational way and strive to capture light as it affects the subject matter. Much of my more recent work has been developed from plein air oil sketches and photographs done on the Lizard Peninsula of Cornwall which holds a particular fascination with me.

I have won a number of awards for my work. Most notably the centenary cup for fine art at the Dorset Arts and Craft’s annual exhibition, on two occasions. I was also proud and honoured to have one of my pieces selected to be exhibited in the Afloat or Ashore exhibition last year, along with members of the Royal Society of Marine Artists.”
