Artist’s Statement:

“I am a mixed media artist working in the contemporary abstract style. For 18 years I taught Art at GCSE and A Level in several schools. What drives me to create is as mysterious to me as it is fascinating. I just know that I have to do it. Perhaps it was the access to an art room stock-cupboard full of equipment? But I like to continually experiment with different materials. Creativity for me takes on many forms; painting portraits in oils, painting abstracts in acrylics, mixed media work, textiles, printing and hand built ceramics and other three dimentional objects. Last year I submitted all ceramics to Purbeck Arts Week; this year I am submitting all paintings!

If I step outside the house and turn left, within half an hour I can reach Durdle Door on the Jurassic Coast, so it’s unsurprising that touches of greens and blues appear in most of my paintings, and ceramic glazes. I often pick up sea-glass and flotsam and jetsom from the beach to include in my work – I melt the glass into the glazes or add plants and natural forms into mixed media work, bringing the coast inside the home.”
