Artist’s Statement:

“My practice centres on the bowl as a functional and decorative object and a test of technical skill. Working on the wheel, I have developed a finely thrown style that prioritises control, proportion and finish, while fully embracing the fact that every bowl is different. Many pieces incorporate local Purbeck clay, creating a direct connection between landscape, material and object.
More recently, I have begun combining ceramics with bronze, silver and gold—materials that behave very differently to clay and introduce new technical challenges. The work is informed by Touareg traditions, where intricate metalwork is used to repair and strengthen wooden bowls, making the process of repair visible rather than hidden.
There is immense satisfaction in taking a piece from beach to bowl: sourcing raw material, refining it, throwing the form and resolving it with metal. Each bowl responds to its materials and making process, resulting in pieces that are robust, unapologetically decorative, and entirely unique.”
