PYA 2013

Purbeck Young Artists (PYA) is the children’s section of the Festival. Our aim is to nuture and celebrate the creativity of our young artists. Each year the PYA team encorage schools to explore a shared theme in lots of inspiring ways. The generosity of our sponsors allows us to pay professional local artists to go into schools and run creative worshops.

The PYA theme this year is Global Patterns and children are creating artwork inspired by ethnic patterns, cultural identity and patterns in nature.

This year 4 professional local artists are leading workshops in 11 schools in Purbeck. More than 300 children agad 5 to 18 will have the chance to participate in exciting workshops exploring painting, printing, mask making, card sculptures, ceramicsand textile art.

Artwork made in schools will be on show at Rollington Barn throughout the Festival and selected work will decorate St Mary’s Church for the Zumbe! on Sunday 9th June.

The PYA Celebration Event on Thursday 23rd May 4-6pm at Rollington Barn will be a great chance to see the artwork made by young people in Purbeck. Prize giving at 5pm.
