PYA 2014
Purbeck Young Artists (PYA) is the young people’s section of the Festival. Our aim is to nurture and celebrate the creativity of all our young artists. Each Year the PYA team encourage schools to explore a shared theme in lots of inspiring ways. The generosity of our sponsors allows us to pay professional local artists to go into schools and run creative workshops.
This year’s theme – Venitian Carnival – offers wide scope for our 12 artist led workshops to create works of art which reflect such themes as colour, light, reflections, ships and celebration. We are fortunate in having artists in Purbeck who are not only sucessful for their personal work, but also have the ability to teach and inspire young people. Our 5 local artists are running workshops covering textiles, animation, wire sculpture, ceramics and artistic film.
Alongside the workships, students from the Purbeck School are creating large images of the Rialto Bridge (as part of a community wide effort) and also a larger than life statue of a person at the Venice Carnival. Students from many schools will be taking part in the opening parade on Wareham Quay on 24th May while at Rollington Barn near Corfe Castle, students from around 15 schools will exhibit what they have created.
At a special Celebration Evening at Rollington Barn on Thursday 22nd of May at 4pm our PAW14 Young Artist prize winners will recieve their awards.
One of the workshops that we put on was animation. This is Donatella Saves the Festival by Bovington Primary School.
