PYA 2015

Our Festival is for everyone and it is appropriate that we should encorage and celebrate art created locally in the community. Art is also fun and, as part of our Festival theme of “Out of the Depths”, we are creating a dinosaur made from clay tiles. This will take it’s place alongside our ceramic-leaved Community Tree of Life on Swanage sea-front (there is another such tree in the garden of Wareham Library).

Students at the Purbeck School have painted a background of Tilly Whim caves from which our Stegosaurus will emerge. Young and old will have helped paint the leaves and many local businesses have helped fund this art which will further enliven a wall by the sea. Do go and admire this public art.

Students have also benn working with members of the Wareham Seniors Forum and especially those with sprecial needs to create a series of brightly coloured flags. These will be displayed at our events and at the Domvs office in Wareham (we are greatful to Domvs for their funding). “A Colourful Partnership” evening in Wareham will celebrate this achievement, involve those with special needs and some of our talented young musicians – including a John Flowers bursary winner.

We are also part funding a series of stone panels that will be set into a stone plinth in Swanage. The carving of stone is a key part of our local heritage and we are encouraging the next generation of carvers at the Burngate Stone Carving Centre above Langton Matravers.
