There were 18 main Concerts & Other Events in 2012. The PAW Fringe put on a programme including rock music, wild knitting, interative beach art and a show about Shakespere’s Wife.

PYA 2012

Purbeck Young Artists (PYA) is the children’s section of the Festival. Our aim is to promote and celebrate the creativity of children of all ages. Each year the PYA team encorage schools to explore a shared theme and explore new creative activities. Outside of school, the performers who are playing at the Festival lead more workshops to introduce young people to their techniques and share their experience. This year Stephen Warbeck, the Gabrieli Consort and several local artists are sharing their skills.

Competitions

Free Tickets for Young Journalists: Children aged 10 to 19 could win frre events tickets for submitting a review of an event.

Purbeck Young Artist Competition: work based on this year’s theme was exhibited at Rollington Barn (primarily in the Cafe) and there was a prize giving on the Thursday evening before the Festival began.

Rollington Lunchtime Artist Series

The Greenwood Workshop was based at Rollington on Fridays and the weekends during the Festival. You could try the ancient craft of pole lathe turning and make your own product to take home. Woodland products such as BBQ charcoal, bean poles, stools, chairs and spoons were also for sale.

Other Talks & Demonstrations:

Burngate Stone Carving Taster – Come and try your hand at stone carving in a special joint venture between the PAW Festival and the Burngate Stone Carving Centre. Led by Val Quinn.

Local artist Lizzie Induni leads a clay workshop.

Jacky Botterill will lead a workshop on Egg Tempera painting – the technique used to create ancient frescos and icons. Come and mix your own paint from egg and natural pigments and create your own design on a prepared wooden panel.

Can Artists Save the Planet? – Geoff Jones environmental artist and educator reviews how artists globally are responding to climate change, offering examples from the environmental art movement, and culminating in a collaborative artwork outside the barn.

Clarissa Galliano will describe with original work her artistic journey from large charcoal paintings of figures, througha period of domestic still lifes, to recent abstract work. The talk will discuss how important a strong tradition in drawing has been in the development of a painting career.

Award winning sculptor Moira Purver talks about her work and offers insights into the process of creating her evocative sculptures.

Tracey Chapman has a flock of Shetland sheep from which she uses the fine, naturally coloured wool to spin, felt and weave. See and hear her talk ona different form of art; turning a pile of raw fleeces into an array of unusual products
