Purbeck/Autumn Chamber Music Festival

This was created to spread the PAW brand ‘out of festival’, following the three sucessful Autumn concerts that Natalie Clein had put on in 2012. In 2016 it evolved into the Purbeck International Chamber Music Festival (PICMF)

PYA 2016

Art is fun and every year we involve some 500 young people in local schools across Purbeck to be creative and develop works of art on a theme that runs across our festival. This year’s theme “Midsummer Dreams” has provided plenty of scope for imaginative ideas. 15 workshops have been delivered to Purbeck schools, led by a talented team of professional artist-educators. We are also delighted to welcome some several schools that have not been involved with the festival before.

Community Art

In 2016, The Swanage School, Swanage Primary School, St Mary’s Primary and Purbeck View School were all involved in workshops to produce swirling ceramic fish to join our 2015 Dinosaur Mural on Swanage Sea Front. It was all beautifully choreographed by Dawn Newlove and unveiled live on the local BBC News!

PAWF John Flower Bursary

Bursary Award Recipients:

Claire Cullinaire: An award for the costs of building a jewellery workbench and towards the cost of a Rolling Mill and other jewellery making tools.

Lisa Embury: An interim award to help with the necessary costs of embarking on the Art Design and Media Foundation course at Weymouth College, to be followed by an application for a further award when the costs and requirements of the course are established.

Grace Lovelass: An award for the costs of the Course fees for the Wessex Solo Singers Course and the Dorset Opera Summer School 2016 plus various full vocal opera scores.

Laura Evans: An award towards for the costs of a printing press, a range of oil based printing inks and other miscellaneous print making materials.

Sinead O’Neill: An award towards the costs of buying an Ipad and pen to help and encourage you in the development of your digital art career.

Competitions

Purbeck Young Artist Competition: work based on this year’s theme was exhibited at Rollington Barn (in the Byre) and there was a prize giving on the Thursday evening before the Festival began.

Postcard Competition: collect signatures from five different artists venues and win a £250 voucher for a piece of PAW art of your choice.

Theme Competition: Exhibiting artists could submit artwork based on the current year’s theme (Midsummer Dreams) to be selected to be used on the poster or for the cover of the Brochure or the Programme.

Shop Window Competition: Local shops decorated their windows and the public voted to choose the best. The winner won free advertising space in the following year’s brochure and programme.

    • A sketching mess tent in a section that is usually not open to the public for the festival fortnight for PAW members to use
    • A rolling exhibition in the cafe with a different artist every 2 months
